Is your Disposal Clogged or Not Working ?

All sorts of things can cause a clog in your garbage disposal. Perhaps someone has dropped something in there that’s causing the problem? It could also be that your unit is simply overloaded.

The first thing a lot of people do is reach for the phone to call a plumber. However, if you follow a few simple safety steps, you could easily save yourself some money.

How to Un-Jam your Disposal
  • Turn off the garbage disposal at the wall switch. Unplug the disposal from the wall outlet beneath the sink.
  • Insert a garbage disposal wrench into the center opening in the bottom of the disposal, or use a 1/4-inch hex key if you do not have a garbage disposal wrench. Rotate the hex key back and forth to un-jam the blades.
  • Plug the garbage disposal back into the outlet beneath the sink. Turn on the cold water faucet to allow water to flow into the disposal.
  • If the disposal does not start, push the reset button on the bottom of the disposal. If these attempts do not fix your issue Call Parker’s Plumbing!

Tips For Trouble-Free Operation

Don’t Put Fats, Oil and Grease

Down the Drain or in the Garbage Disposal.
They solidify in the sewer and cause blockages and sewer overflows. Materials like bacon grease, oil and other fats should be poured into an empty metal can and be allowed to cool and solidify, then disposed of in the trash. If there is a small amount of oil or grease in your pan, wipe the pan out with a paper towel to remove the grease before washing.

Don’t Put Hard or Fibrous

Materials Down Your Garbage Disposal, They Will Possibly Clog Up The Drains Causing You More Expense!
